Passenger Radio is part of Passenger Recovery Community Center in Hamtramck – an organization that uses music and the arts as a pathway to recovery from substance use disorder (SUD). We believe that recovery goes hand in hand with overall improvement of quality of life, and that music and the arts can inspire and enrich our personal journey. As such, Passenger Radio serves to keep the community regularly informed of supports and events that are available to provide that enrichment.
WHCK serves as a bridge between the arts, mental health, and recovery. Central to the vision of Passenger Radio is the belief that recovery is a holistic process, extending beyond sobriety to include emotional, mental, and social well-being. By placing an emphasis on broad cultural representation and providing a platform for diverse voices and experiences, the station enriches the lives of its audience and plays a vital role in community healing and growth.
Cultural Representation: A diverse mix of musical genres, local artists, and cultural programming to reflect the varied backgrounds of Hamtramck’s residents.
Recovery Support: Programming that includes discussions about recovery resources, community events, and personal stories of resilience.
Community Engagement: Collaborations with local organizations, musicians, and artists to provide enriching content and support a connected community.
Education and Advocacy: Using the arts as a vehicle to raise awareness about substance use disorder, mental health, and recovery options.
Passenger Radio WHCK – Hamtramck is made possible thanks to support from Michigan Arts & Culture Council, Gibson Gives Foundation/KRK Kares, and Electronic Theater Controls.
